the "Sally Martin Challenge" postpone until March
I am going to have to postpone the challenge until March when days are better and more appropriate for some life modeling. I had lots of fun doing the first few days of the challenge but I feel that if I prepare it better, my work would benefit in greater length.
The work during the 40 days challenge needs to reflect some studies and a series of sketches to achieve a more detailed piece of work at a later stage. I think if I re-define the challenge in this way, it would really provide a path to each piece of work to be produced.
I will be working on planning my new work and in the same time will organize a planning of work to carry-on the challenge from March.

the "Sally Martin Challenge" - day 5
Still studying dressage. Due to the weather conditions, modeling or sketching form life is not quite possible so I have to use my memories as well as a large portfolio of pictures that I took this summer of my friend's horse.
I am not too happy with day 4 sculpture..seems that I have been trapped in thinking around the details rather than seeing the larger picture so I am going to have to re-work that one at some point or re-do the exercise, may be with a different media.
Anyway, I haven't started on Day 5 sculpture yet as so far I have been busy preparing a schedule of courses that I will start to do.
So far I did couple of sketches ( still trying to make sure I do some sketching every days!).
here is the result... sculpture to follow later.... looks like it will be a late night today.
I really like the very basic of the first sketch just showing the main curves of the mouvement....
By the way, the paper that I am using for the sketches at the moment are the left over from the Christmas paper and also the central cardboard to keep the Christmas paper in rolls.... I really liked the color and texture :):)

the "Sally Martin Challenge" - day 2
Still working in wax...with a bit of cardboard added to the sculpture when i was building it. Using also a cardboard base. It is quite hard to do a piece of work without too much details but also ensuring that in the few hours making the sculpture, the few details/shapes look actually right. It is actually very easy to fall-back into working on the details but as this had to be done in a day..so had to stop... I did have fun in using cardboard dipped in hot wax to build up the sculpture!
During another part of my day, I also started to try to defrost my clay to get started on the Kings troop commission asap.
Better Pictures of Day 2 - in the snow!

The "Sally Martin Challenge" - day 1
for this first day of my challenge, I decided to concentrate in doing some work around my little english bulldog ( Elvis).
Today I did experiment with wax on a very loose armature. I use a mixture of brown sculpting wax and green casting wax...I like the mixture of both as it is harder than a sculpting wax. I also did few very loose quick sketches of Elvis ( just 2!).

The "Sally Martin Challenge" -2 days to start!
in 2 days, I will be starting the "sally Martin Challenge". For 40 days, I will be experimenting new medias and producing a piece of art per day. Mainly sculptures but also a set of sketches. I have been thinking a fair bit about how to approach it and which media I could experiment with and I have some good ideas. The purpose of this challenge is not to produce a large quantities of artwork but rather experiment as much as i can. Some work might be brillant and some might not be great and hopefully some work will be re-developed at a later stage to a larger or more define artworks.
